Are remote conferences with the tools available today possible?
How is the experience? Can you meet new people?
These are some of the questions I want to elaborate for the OSCW2020.
I will try to use as much open-source software as possible and will focus on the software already used by the libre space foundation to minimize set-up friction.
Level of Experience
A conference is much more than just watching talks and presentations. I want to establish a sort of rating to than be able to measure how much of the real world digital tools (alone or in combination) can cover.
Level 0 – just consuming information
- just watching pre-produced videos of presentations
- a discussion in the comment section is possible
Level 1 – a bit more interaction
- a lifestream of a presentation and available afterwards
- interaction with the audience via live-chat
- Q&A after the talk
- discussion in the comment section
Level 2 – beginning to reengineer to feeling
- Level 1
- a schedule with moderated program for before and after the talks involving organizing groups for workshops, discussions …
- all participants or small groups can connect in separate chatrooms/audiochats/videochats
